张家界国家森林公园总面积48平方公里，前身为1958年建立的国营张家界林场，1982年9月张家界国家森林公园正式成立，也宣告了我国首个国家森林公园的诞生。目前，张家界国家森林公园已先后荣获国家首批世界自然遗产、首批世界地质公园、国家5A景区等多项称号，公园内黄石寨、金鞭溪、袁家界三条游览线被推介为国际黄金游览线。
