据预测，2015年北京地区航空旅客吞吐量将达1.26亿人次，货邮吞吐量300万吨，起降架次77万架次。以2010年首都机场高峰小时容量83架次、满足年48.8万架次推算，到2015年首都地区两个机场高峰小时容量，要达到130架次才能满足需求，远超出首都机场目前预测的运行容量94架次与南苑机场9架次容量之和。因此，在2018年新机场建成前，北京地区航空市场需求增长将依靠周边机场共同分担。
