从2000年开始，桂希恩教授接诊的大学生艾滋病感染者已达80人，而近一年多来就增加了十几名。这些感染者中大部分是男生，全部经过性传播途径感染，且不乏在读的博士生。

　　目前全国大学生感染者应该在5万左右。桂希恩教授介绍，从2000年起，仅他个人接诊的大学生艾滋病感染者就已经达到80人，这个数字较2010年的不到60人增加了不少。
