　　该项目于2008年由科技部、交通运输部、公安部共同发起并组织实施，共包含七个课题，以集成创新为手段，开展道路交通安全保障关键技术的研究与示范应用，旨在降低道路交通事故特别是重特大道路交通事故数量、减少交通事故伤亡，初步构建我国道路交通安全技术支撑体系。其中，交通运输部承担，部公路局和道路运输司负责组织实施的课题有三项：课题二“山区公路网安全保障技术体系研究与示范工程”、课题三“国家高速公路安全和服务技术开发与工程应用示范”和课题四“营运车辆安全保障技术开发及大范围集成应用”，共包含18项重点任务和65项研发专题。

　　三个课题共取得技术研究成果126项，完成了涉及15个省（区、市）、覆盖公路里程1万余公里的示范工程，对8000余名营运车辆驾驶员开展安全行车技能培训，维护、检测车辆13800余台次。与示范工程实施前相比，云、贵、川、渝山区公路示范路段群死群伤事故率降低30%以上，京津塘高速公路、广东佛开高速公路、连霍高速公路河南段示范路段亿车公里事故率降低30%以上，亿车公里死亡率降低40%以上。
