据《环球时报》报道　朝鲜东平壤第一中学的“毛泽东班”在朝鲜教育界名气非常大，该校位于平壤东大院区，教育、教学、管理综合实力居朝鲜第二，是国家级重点中学。

　　1950年11月2日，在“抗美援朝，保家卫国”中表现突出的中国北京五中初二（甲）班被命名为“金日成班”。基于两国的友好情谊，朝鲜也于1959年成立了“毛泽东班”。“毛泽东班”与北京五中的“金日成班”互结友好，这是两国唯一以外国元首名字命名的班级，均由经选拔出来的品学兼优的学生组成。从此，“金日成班”和“毛泽东班”结成了友谊对子。
