  在查阅大量市场数据、同时对楼市进行系统梳理的基础上,本刊重点选择包括“北上广深”等一线城市,以及杭州、南京、武汉、郑州、成都等具有代表性的城市作为比较对象(具体可见表1)。对于城市的选择,本刊综合了以下几个方面的因素,首先是要具有代表性,北京、上海、广州和深圳分别为国内三大都市圈的领头城市,它们的一举一动都备受瞩目。成都作为大西南城市中的翘楚,它身上的变化也很引人关注。其次是要体现出差异性,比如一线城市和重点城市以及卫星城市之间的差异。还有就是力求全面,除了一线城市和重点城市之外,还选择了在区域经济发展中具有举足轻重的城市如厦门,以及三、四线城市如烟台、常州等。当然,本刊未将经济水平欠发达的四线城市纳入比较范围。对于区域的选择,重点关注东部沿海城市,同时兼顾中部以及西、北部。为了让对比具有可操作性,本刊还特意对地段进行了限定,主要考察每个城市中心城区和外围偏远区域两个地方的房价差异。
