　　杨东来自宜昌一个贫困山村，2011年考入长江职业学院艺术学院。高中时，杨东的家庭接连遭遇了变故：先是父亲在窑厂爆炸中受伤，母亲又被查出患了肺癌。不久后，父亲因车祸不幸去世。

　　大一下学期，杨东把母亲从宜昌接来与自己同住。为方便给妈妈看病，他在距学校七站路的陈家湾租了一间房。每天晚上，他给妈妈做好第二天的饭菜再去休息。

　　由于妈妈服用的药物比较贵，让没有固定经济来源的小家过得更拮据，有时二十块钱的菜两人要吃上四五天。
