这里面确实有一个对教育的理解问题,做活动是不是教育?同学们做活动的过程可以锻炼沟通的能力,可以培养参与的意识、可以锻炼主动思维,而且通过活动能够很直接地展示自己的才华,便捷地吸收别人的长处,从分数上不会表现的那么直接,而从自身的发展看,同学们学到了课堂以外的东西,是最好的教育。这种习惯的养成到了一个陌生的环境,学生们能够有意识地融入当地社会结交新朋友,就会在困难时能够得到多人的帮助,就会比他人有更强的生存能力。

所以国内的学校除了要教授学生同国际接轨的知识以外,还应该做些什么?还能够做些什么?这是我今天所要谈的。特别是对于即将到海外留学的同学,在选择学校的时候要注意该学校在这些方面的作为。多数的国外学校都有丰富的校园资源提供给学生使用,包括心理咨询室、就业指导中心、学业咨询、学生活动中心、论文修改中心(Writing Center)等。如果一位学生没有经过相应的锻炼,就没有意识去融入学校、融入当地的社会,就不能够"挖掘留学过程中的宝藏"那他留学的收获最多也就是书本上的那些,我相信他在异国的生存能力也不会强。将来回到中国也会突然地发现,发展和变化的中国仍然需要他们重新去适应,就会存在着变成"海待"的危机。这样的留学充其量也就是开开了"洋荤"根本谈不上是接受国际教育的人才。

从另一个方面,我跟郑肖萌同学谈,美国的教育也不是国际的教育,离开了中国优秀的文化,离开了中国优良的教育方法的同时,也就是美国的本土教育。我翻阅了犹他大学的书库目录,里面有中国最核心文化的书籍,如:佛教、道教、儒家也很少。而美国能够用中文读懂这些书籍的教授、学生有多少?当美国的大学敞开了大门在迎接中国的学生的时候,你们要对中国学生传递什么样的价值观?是美国本土的吗?还是世界人民共享的?我认为,在东西方两种文明相互交融的时候,美国学校不要刻意地不要拿你们主流文化的核心价值与中国核心文化的碰撞中寻找差异的部分并放大,而是要接受弱势群体的文化,
