“亚洲教育论坛”是由博鳌亚洲论坛、联合国教科文组织、中国国家留学基金管理委员会共同主办，于2003年底，由菲律宾前总统拉莫斯、韩国前总理李寿成、哈萨克斯坦前总理捷列先科、尼泊尔前首相比斯塔、新西兰前总理珍妮•希普利、联合国教科文组织亚太地区主任谢尔顿•舒佛、澳门基金会主席吴荣恪七位发起者倡议建立的。

　　论坛发起迄今，已成功举办了包括发起者会议在内的八届年度国际盛会。涉及议题包括国际教育、素质教育、艺术教育、远程教育、民办教育、职业教育与就业、跨文化管理、教育慈善、教育投融资、早期教育等各层次、各门类；国务院副总理王岐山，全国人大副委员长、前国务委员陈至立，原全国人大副委员长许嘉璐、何鲁丽，泰国公主诗琳通、菲律宾前总统拉莫斯、哈萨克斯坦前总理捷列先科、韩国前总理李寿成、尼泊尔前首相比斯塔、新西兰前总理珍妮•希普利、比利时前副首相德马赫、波兰前副总理科沃德科、时任教育部长周济、博鳌亚洲论坛秘书长龙永图等来自亚太26个国家的中外政要、教育部长、各国驻华大使、学者、企业家先后出席历届年会。中共中央政治局委员、国务委员刘延东更是在2010年11月亚洲大学校长论坛的讲话中将亚洲教育北京论坛列为中国和亚洲国家间的教育交流平台之首。
