　　1961年她进入中央美术学院附中学习，开始学习素描、水彩和速写，接触了西方美术的技法和观念。接着进入中央美院中国画系花鸟科，师从在各自不同风格流派中有代表性的李苦禅、郭味蕖和田世光先生，比较系统地学习了中国画的古典传统。

　　邓林1967年从中央美术学院毕业，1973年被分配到北京画院工作，并未画画，而是自愿到资料室躲了起来。1977年春才离开资料室，又回到画案前，拿起了画笔，开始了第二次起步，开拓了自己艺术创作的新阶段。她创作了不少画，参加了不少展览。她经常出去写生，游览名山大川。1986年，她被调入中国画研究院(现为中国国家画院)。她关心美术界的新动向、新潮流，在创作中弘扬传统，讲究时代感，寻找自我，追求创新，逐步形成个人独特风格的轨迹。
