我国著名物理学家和教育家、国际著名声学家、中国现代声学的重要开创者和奠基人、中国科学院电子学研究所和声学研究所的创建者之一、中国共产党党员、中国民主同盟盟员、中国科学院资深院士、中国声学学会名誉理事长、全国声学标准化技术委员会名誉主任委员、美国声学学会荣誉会士马大猷教授，因病医治无效，于2012年7月17日8时40分在北京逝世，享年97岁。

　　马大猷长期从事声学研究工作，在物理声学、建筑声学、语言声学、大气声学、次声学、电声学、非线性声学等方面提出了多项重要理论。他提出的简正波理论，是当代建筑声学发展的里程碑；他创建的声学微穿孔板和小孔消声器理论，在国内外得到广泛应用，为噪声控制和环境科学作出了重要贡献。他领导建立了中国第一个声学实验室，主持完成了北京人民大会堂的声学设计等重要研究工作。他著作等身，发表科学论文百余篇、科普读物百余篇。
