小学“奥数热”引起了多位数字家的忧虑。国内数学界泰斗级人物吴文俊院士批评说，奥数是“害人的，害数学”。著名数学家杨乐院士表示，奥数培训班是进行突击训练，对成为数学家起不到作用。数学大师丘成桐指出，奥数不少题目很刁钻，作为爱好偶一为之是可以的，“如果作为主业精心揣摩，甚至为了应付升学，则是很荒谬的事。”
