　　时值北京联合大学大一新生为期15天的军训。中午时分，离讲座开始还有近4个小时，天气骤变，本来晴朗的天空突然阴云密布。来自管理学院的十几名大一同学在风雨交加、瞬间风速可高达五六级大风的恶劣天气中，依然坚持布置讲台，一边挂讲台背景幕布、挂横幅，一边谈论着新东方。不过，讲座开始前的半小时，突然风停雨住，阳光灿烂，4时整，在同学们的热烈掌声中，陈向东老师大步走上讲台，主题为“因为要自己起跑，所以叫大学”的讲座准时开始。

　　整场讲座持续了一个半小时，陈向东老师幽默而又催人奋进的演讲内容引起了极大共鸣，同学们时而点头、时而思索，认真地做着笔记，有的记满了整张纸，掌声和欢笑声更是一浪接着一浪。讲座结束后的互动环节里，陈向东老师回答了同学们通过微博提出的问题。“我是一名专科学生，想到毕业就很惶恐，专科生的竞争优势一点儿都没有，我该怎么办？” “大学读书重要还是参与、组织学生会重要？”对于同学们普遍关注的一些问题，陈向东老师一一作了答复，并且给出了诚恳的建议。
