一方面要加强人文知识的吸收。阿尔伯蒂说过，“我所称之为建筑师的人，从完美的艺术与技巧的角度来说，是通过思考与发明，既能够设计，也能够实施的人；是对于(建筑)工作过程中的所有部分都了如指掌的人；是通过对巨大重物的移动，对体量的叠加与联结，能够创造出与人的心灵相贯通的伟大的美的人。”建筑师应该是工匠、人文知识分子、艺术和科学工作者合而为一的人，比如达芬奇，比如米开朗基罗。或者说，建筑师应该是同时具备工匠、人文、艺术与科学多重素质的人。建筑学的人文、艺术与工匠传统，三种素质缺一不可。一个建筑师在三种素养之中的某一种特别突出都可使他成为一个有所成就的有特点的建筑师，若是三种素养都很突出，将可使其成为一个大有成就的建筑师，我们观察一下几位现当代的建筑大师：柯布、康、密斯，以至老库、赫尔佐格与德姆隆等莫不如此。
