虽然在影片《高考1977》中饰演了一位对恢复高考有些抵触情绪的农场场长，但孙海英本人却一直怀着大学梦，孙海英略带遗憾地向记者回忆说，“1977年、1978年我连续两年都参加了预考，不过因为当时自己演出任务比较多，复习时间太少，所以最后考的成绩不怎么样，其中语文最高59分，历史39分、政治19分，数学最低，我基本放弃了，好像只考了9分。”
