针对公众质疑中毒幼儿具体人数，琼中县有关部门解释说，根据入院登记，21日下午两院收治患儿39人。22日，为确保该所幼儿园的学生安全，卫生部门要求该园所有学生前往医院接受例行检查，对疑似对象一律要求住院观察。由于家长带幼儿入院检查时间不统一，入院人数每天都有变化，至22日下午，两家医院收治幼儿达到60名。24日又有2名幼儿入院检查，其中1名幼儿住院治疗，1名幼儿在门诊诊断取药回家。据统计，至24日晚，两家医院共收治住院幼儿61人。
