近日，由厦门大学主办的“中国现代大学创校理念研究纪念林文庆校长国际学术研讨会”在厦门举行。北京大学人文高等研究院院长、哈佛大学教授杜维明，北京大学教授陈平原，香港中文大学文学院院长、崇基学院院长梁元生，新加坡南洋理工大学人文与社会科学院院长刘宏，新加坡南洋理工大学中华语言文化中心主任李元瑾等来自海内外的30多位专家学者参加会议。本次会议由厦门大学人文学院承办、新加坡南洋理工大学中华语言文化中心协办。研讨会议题以中国现代大学创校理念与实践研究为主，厦门大学人文学院副院长李晓红主持了开幕式，厦门大学副校长邬大光和马来西亚高等教育部副部长何国忠致辞并作演讲。与会专家围绕中国现代大学创校理念和教育理念的演变，针对中国现代大学发展过程中出现的一些值得关注和思考的现象与问题，进行了深入的探究与研讨。陈平原选取燕京、南开、厦门和中山四所大学为具体案例，对大学创立的理念与实践关系以及校长的作用和影响展开分析。梁元生聚焦20世纪初期中国大学掀起的一次“国学运动”，将其置于西方列强侵略中国和中国走向现代化的背景下进行探讨，并对北大、清华、燕京和厦门四所大学的国学建构进行了比较分析，指出这场“国学运动”的目的是重新检视传统文化以应对中国的现代化冲击及西方文化的挑战。此外，与会专家学者还对中国现代大学进行了现状分析与未来展望。杜维明主张在大学中重建中华文化传统，并以北大为例来讨论具体的建构理念与方法。
