北京市第十一中学建立于1950年，是新中国成立后，党和人民政府在北京建立的第一所公立学校，北京市第十一中学也是崇文区第一所中学。十一中的建立是经北京市第二届人代会第二次会议通过并纳入1950年市府年度工作计划中实施完成的，它是在彭真、聂荣臻等老一辈革命家直接关怀下，特地在龙须沟地区为南城劳动人民兴建的一所中学。校址在南城药王庙内(即：崇文区东晓市大街101号)，可以说是当时最平民的学校。
