印商工部国务部长辛迪亚（J. Scindia）在书面回答国会质询时表示，印政府已经采取了措施减少不断膨胀的对华的贸易逆差, 但没能成功。主要归咎于两国经济结构、交易的商品构成、中国的市场准入问题以及全球经济不景气。他认为两国间的贸易构成非常扭曲。印对华贸易赤字从2006-07财年的91.5亿美元增加到2011–12财年的396.5亿美元。印度出口以初级产品为主，包括铁矿石、铜、棉花等原料，而从中国进口则主要是制成品和机电设备等。2011-12年度，印度对华出口总额的53%是由有色金属、铁矿石、棉花构成的,而从中国进口50%的商品是电力设备、机械、反应堆和锅炉等。
