据尼日利亚国家腰果协会称，目前尼日利亚全国范围共有60万棵腰果树，约200-400亩的种植面积，年产量12万吨，95%作为原料直接出口，年出口额约1.5亿美元，提供超过60万的工作机会，是非洲第4大腰果生产商。但越来越多的木薯树正被农户当做炭火或者改种其他经济效益高的农作物，处于岌岌可危的状态。

　　该协会称，目前80%的腰果树已经超龄，部分已经超过60年的树龄，2013年到2014年间，需种植30万高产品种，并呼吁联邦政府能给予更多的政策支持。
