　　据海口海关相关负责人介绍，25年来，海南对外贸易的商品结构、经营主体也发生了根本性变化。建省办特区初期，海南外贸进口商品以家电、汽车、摩托车等国内紧缺的工业制品为主，出口则主要是硅锰铁、胡椒、鞋等初级产品和轻纺产品为主。如今，海南外贸进口商品以原油、煤炭、飞机等资源性商品和高新技术产品为主，罗非鱼及其制品、菊花、咖啡等特色农产品出口领先全国，高新技术产品出口从无到有且比重不断扩大。同时，外贸经营主体也蓬勃发展，改变了原先以国有企业为主的格局，如今外商投资企业、民营企业的外贸规模已远超国有企业。

　　1988年4月，海南正式改制为省并被划定为经济特区。据介绍，建省办特区初期，海南对外贸易伙伴仅有少数的几个国家和地区，目前已发展到160个国家和地区，形成全方位和多元化的进出口市场格局。欧盟、美国、东盟、日本、香港、非洲、中东等成为主要贸易伙伴。2002年，对香港、欧盟、日本、美国等四大出口市场出口值占比重达73.7%。到了2012年，对上述四大传统市场的依赖程度下降至60.8%，对东盟、非洲、中东等新兴市场出口快速增长，所占比重上升到22.3%。
